New Years Resolutions, Why are they important?

As we reach the final day of 2015 the reminder of new years resolutions rises once again. The ever elusive and taunting resolution that will never be realized. The beginning of a new you and your rocket to success, weight loss, and or smoking cessation. Motivation to that big change for the better that last a day or so before it's forgotten about till next December 31st. But why? Why is it that the majority of resolutions are broken, fail or are forgotten about, and why do we care? The reason you should care is because New Years resolutions are goals. Goals to personal success, betterment, and/or change. The fact that most people fail at achieving them is perfect for dissecting the reasons why so that we don't make the same mistakes when setting goals. In a recent discussion regarding an article posted on LinkedIn, That focused on compliance, there was a comment that stated; "When you look at all of the turmoil around the latest scandals and investigations you can't help but wonder and ask; how did they let this happen?" This is a great question and one that I'm sure everybody has some sort of answer to that points at greedy CEOs, corruption and other sinister plots. While this may be the case in some instances the majority of the time it is simply bad decisions. Of course choosing to become a criminal is a bad decision but that's not the bad decision that's being referred to. I'm talking about bad business decisions. Decisions based on complacency, laziness, unfounded fears, promulgated by both internal and external scare tactics. Why compliance is the most important part of business today

People may argue this statement, but think about this; After the initial idea for a business you can't even begin to think about planning without knowing if you need licenses, what type of company you will form, or where you can put it without making sure it is compliant with all of the rules and regulations. Compliance is often forgotten, passed off to an attorney who does the research or has someone in their office do it. As your company grows so does the need for expanded compliance, that means hiring. but who do you hire? a team of attorneys? That can be pretty pricey. What is needed are people who can research and provided resolutions and process complex thoughts into viable outcomes. Compliance as defined, is simple, it's making sure you follow the rules.
